Women have all been quietly working in the background, standing as pillars for their families and communities long before they were publicly recognized.
Yet times are changing.
Women are now much more active and visible—with March being touted as International Women’s Month (with March 8th as International Women’s Day).
As part of the festivities, here are some free perks several institutions offer to Filipinas this month.
Transportation
Filipinas can enjoy free rides in Barangay Comon, starting from the town proper to the Infanta Quezon Water District. This is all part of the activities of #SerbisyoParaKayJuana from March 8 until March 31.
There are also free bus rides for Filipinas from PITX to Cubao (and vice versa) on the following dates: March 6, March 13, and March 20.
Government Services
In Barangay Santol, Tanza, Cavite, women can avail free barangay clearance and barangay certification—and a surprise treat!
All these are available every Friday at their Admin Building.
Women can also enjoy waived processing fees for all hazard assessment reports for the entire month of March at the DOST-PHILVOCS (Diliman, Quezon City, near the University of the Philippines).
For Filipinas who enjoy reading, the Magna Carta of Women Implementing Rules and Regulations (RA 9710) is now available online to the public.
It is a comprehensive book about laws aiming to defend, uphold, and advance the rights of Filipino women.
Lastly, the Sandiganbayan also offers a courtesy lane for women, senior citizens, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) from March 1 until March 27. However, they must complete their requirements for their single or walk-in applications beforehand.
Medical Services
ManilaMed will also launch a fair called “Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patunayan!,” which will tackle some of the most common health issues among women.
Some of the topics that might be discussed include Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, check-ups, and prenatal care.
Of course, Women’s Month is also for transgender women. So, Trans Health Philippines is offering free hormone management and counseling before gender-affirming surgery (GAS).
De Los Santos Medical Center also has medical packages for breast ultrasound and mammography, breast and bone screening, and perimenopause.
Recreation
The Intramuros Administration and the Philippine Commission on Women will be holding activities throughout the entire month of March.
For instance, fashion designer Lira Cardona will have a mini-weaving workshop where participants will have firsthand experience using mini looms as well as learning the basics of weaving and various textiles.
The workshop will run from March 16 to 17 with a fee of ₱999.
On the other hand, the National Museum will have a special lane for women from different backgrounds on March 13, 20, and 27.
Celebrating Women
This March, take time to think about all the women in your life and how each one of them has helped shape you into who you are today.
Of course, we shouldn’t stop honoring women during Women’s Month.
At Remote Staff, for instance, we actively advocate for women looking to work online and spend more time with their loved ones while earning. We’re always updating our job listings to deliver roles that best fit your qualifications.
Remote Staff has also been around for 16 years (and counting), with a lot of women in key management positions, including the CEO.
