Have you ever fancied a career in online marketing? If you are, now is the time to do so! In just a short time, the internet has become the preferred method of communication by everyone, both for its reach and accessibility. And businesses are no exception. As businesses continue to shift online to remain competitive, the internet marketing job is seeing a surge in popularity.
An internet marketing specialist is responsible for promoting a business or brand and its products or services on the internet. This job differs from a digital marketer’s because digital marketing also includes TV commercials, radio ads, SMS ads, and digital billboards. Other duties and responsibilities of an internet marketing specialist include:
- Generate Content for the company website and social media accounts.
- Optimize website content.
- Update social media platforms.
- Manage the creation and delivery of marketing strategies.
- Create and deliver email campaigns.
- Analyze the success of campaigns and return in investment (ROI).
And with these duties and responsibilities comes an appropriate salary. A new full-time junior-level internet marketing job has a salary range of Php 25,000 to Php 33,000. Experienced internet marketing specialists, on the other hand, have a salary range of Php 60,000 to Php 80,000.
To help you remain ahead of other aspiring internet marketers, I will discuss the five skills you need for an internet marketing job. Honing these skills ensures that you will become a sought-after internet marketing specialist.
Proficiency in SEM, SEO.
Let’s start with one of the basic skills that you need in online marketing. Of course, I’m talking about SEM and SEO proficiency. What’s the difference between the two, you may ask? SEM, or search engine marketing, is a marketing strategy that requires payment to appear in a search engine’s results. The most popular SEM platform is google ads.
SEO, or search engine optimization, utilizes organic strategies to help a company’s webpage appear in search results. SEO focuses on a variety of tactics to generate page views on the company’s webpages. These tactics include on-page and off-page optimization.
Knowing how to use these two marketing strategies well allows your company’s webpages to appear consistently in search results. Combine this with quality content and proper keyword research, and you will see an increase in traffic to your company’s webpages. After all, no matter how great your web page’s content is, it’s useless if nobody clicks on it.
Data Analytical Skills.
The next skill that you should hone for an internet marketing job is data analytical skills. Having these skills enables you to know your audience better and produce ads that are better suited to their needs. Without them, you will struggle to figure out why your ads aren’t generating any traffic and how to remedy this issue.
There are several marketing analytical tools that you can use to help you in your task. Examples of these include Google Analytics, MixPanel, Cyfe, and Klipfolio. These tools allow you to gather crucial data such as popular keywords, viewer demographics, and when your articles are most viewed.
Familiarity with Social Media Trends.
And of course, this article about online marketing would not be complete without mentioning social media. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have become the platform for people to express their ideas, including businesses. For your company to thrive here, you must be aware of and keep up with the latest social media trends.
This task may sound easy, but bear in mind that each social media site has its own trends. A popular trend on Twitter may not be as popular or even known on Instagram, for example. Knowing the right trend to use on which social media site and relate it to your company’s products or services to it is an essential skill that you should have.
Excellent Communication Skills.
The next skill that I will be discussing is excellent communication skills. These skills are crucial for an internet marketer because they allow you to project a positive image of your company or brand to your viewers. Excellent communication skills also allow you to produce informative yet entertaining content for your readers. These content would then increase traffic in your website as more viewers become interested in your products or services.
Aside from communicating with your audience, you must also be able to communicate effectively with your co-workers. Remember, you are going to depend on each other to accomplish your jobs. So it’s not a very good idea to alienate yourself to them.
Creativity.
And finally, the last skill that I will be discussing will be creativity. A creative internet marketer is someone who can produce unique and engaging content for the company’s website. Being creative also allows you to come up with solutions to whatever problems you may encounter while working. These problems could range from issues within the website to producing new marketing strategies.
An example of applying creativity as an internet marketer was how remote staff were able to connect the recent victory of Hidilyn Diaz with remote working. This example also connects with my previous point about being familiar with social media trends. Producing an article about Hidilyn Diaz’s victory and relating it to our services helps increase viewer traffic on our website.
Conclusion.
And finally, we are done! Here are five of the skills you will need for an internet marketing job. Of course, there are many more skills that you need as an internet marketer. These are just the crucial skills that you will need to become more productive in your job.
And if you or your friends are looking for other online jobs, Remote Staff has plenty of other job openings in store. I hope that this article will help you in your search for a job.
