Ever wondered how you can be the best candidate for a job? Well, it’s more than just your credentials. Recruiters check your attitude and soft skills to match you with the team. So, what should you not become?
Here are 7 worst types of candidates and why you shouldn’t be like them.
Unprepared Clueless Candidate
Candidates need to have a certain level of preparedness when they get interviewed. But some seem clueless about what they signed up for. They don’t know the role.
I mean, they don’t even know the purpose of the meeting. Some might just be asking. It’s alright to ask.
But some are so clueless; they don’t even know how to sell themselves and their skills. At least know that you’re in an interview. And at least, you should’ve prepared the things that get you the job done.
So practice and prepare as much as possible.
Unprofessional Candidates
Most of the time, the little things matter. Are you on time? Did you bother combing your hair while on a skype interview? Do you even sound interested in the position you are applying for?
The recruiters are analyzing if you’re fit for the role — both credentials-wise and attitude-wise. Yes, it’s not all about the looks. But first impressions last. So you don’t want to fail the interview just because you look like a sloppy home-buddy binging Netflix with pizza sauce on your face.
So be professional and look the part. It will give you an advantage over the rest.
Overly Needy Candidate
So after your interview, you might want to ask questions. Go ahead. You want everything to be as clear as possible. But don’t be an overly needy candidate.
Some candidates message their interviewer as if they are chatmates. They demand to be replied to as soon as the message is seen. It’s like asking 5 questions in a span of 30 minutes per day. It’s annoying.
Again, it’s alright to ask questions. But don’t expect the recruiter to be on-call for your every query. So if you have any inquiries, try to search for yourself or think first before asking. And ask away if needed.
Afraid to Ask Questions
On the other hand, there are candidates who are too scared to ask questions. These candidates loom within the ranks of Filipinos because we are afraid to confront and to be labeled stupid.
Again, it’s perfectly alright to answer questions! Asking questions doesn’t mean your stupid. You just want to make it clear.
Entitled “Perfect” Candidate
There are candidates that feel that the world owes them everything. They want to get the job asap at an exorbitant salary rate. And they don’t even have any experience with it.
They dictate salary ranges because “it’s what they want to get for their expenses.” Period. There’s nothing wrong with dictating the salary ranges you want. But you need to back it up with reasons that are beneficial for your clients.
After all, it’s a business. Why should they pay you that much? Are you worth that much based on the value you can give? If yes, go on. But these entitled “perfect” candidates say it just because.
Rude Candidate
The entitled candidate sometimes goes hand-in-hand with the spawn of the devil, the rude candidate. They have this certain tone that everyone is beneath them.
Maybe they just don’t know that they’re rude or the recruiter might have said something. But some are just so rude with how they talk and behave; they don’t deserve the job at all.
So as much as possible, be polite and professional when you attend interviews.
Ghost Candidates
These candidates are probably the hatest among the rest. You scheduled an interview. You followed up.
But they don’t show up. I mean, I don’t think there’s traffic online. And if there is, you should at least message or reschedule if you can’t make it. Are you a Casper, the not-so-friendly ghost?
Recruiters are not adept at ghost summoning or ouija boards to call upon your presence. Please make sure to communicate if you can’t make it. It’s not easy to summon the undead.
