After working for forty, sometimes even more, hours a week, it’s great to have a relaxing and fun weekend.
That said, unless you’re working on a four-day workweek, that only gives you two days of rest.
If you spend the entire weekend lying on your bed, you’ll accomplish nothing and quickly feel bored.
However, if you pack your weekend with various activities, you’ll feel too exhausted for your work from home job on Monday.
So, how do you balance things out and make the most of your weekend?
Here are some tips for making your weekends more fun – and still have enough time for rest.
Plan Your Weekend
The first step to stop wasting your weekends is knowing what you want to do with your time.
Do you want to spend it resting? Or do you want to spend more time with your friends and loved ones?
Having a list helps with this, as it lets you plan what you need (and want) to do for this weekend.
The former can include your house chores, cleaning your workplace, or attending to personal matters.
On the other hand, the latter can be all about hanging out with your friends, doing your hobbies, or just getting some much-needed rest.
Wake Up Early
Do you love staying up late during the weekends? That may not be a great choice if you want to make the most of your weekend.
Sure, it feels good to get an extra hour (or three) of sleep on Saturdays and Sundays.
However, waking up late means losing precious time you could’ve used doing your tasks or the things you love.
By waking up at a reasonable time, you can get more done with less, which means more time for yourself afterwards.
Doing this also helps keep your body clock consistent, so waking up early on Monday won’t feel so jarring.
Do Something New From Time to Time
Feeling bored doing nothing during the weekend?
If so, what you need is a change in your routine.
Doing so adds a sense of adventure to your typical weekend routine and something to look forward to.
This could involve camping with your family, visiting a nearby historical landmark or museum, or trying a new hobby.
Take Time For Your Hobbies
Doing your hobbies is a great way to relax, bond with friends, and meet new people.
One of my hobbies is collecting miniatures for a tabletop game. When I have free time on Saturdays, I assemble minis or paint current ones.
Doing this takes a lot of time and effort. However, few things are more satisfying than assembling and painting a set of models – or one big one.
Get Some Well-Deserved Rest
There’s nothing wrong with spending most of your weekend having fun.
However, this shouldn’t be an excuse to ignore your health.
If you stayed up a lot because of work last week, now’s the time to catch some zzz’s.
Doing so helps you regain your strength – so you can return refreshed and re-energized for work.
Take Time to Clean Your Remote Workplace
Given how busy our weekday schedules are, weekends are usually the only time left to clean our workplace.
A tidy and well-kept workspace boosts morale and productivity while reducing stress and the risk of accidents. Thus, you should try to clean your home office at least once a week.
You don’t have to spend the entire day on this task – even as little as thirty minutes will do.
It also helps to plan something fun afterwards, like going out for lunch, so you’re motivated to finish it as quickly as possible.
Unplug From Social Media
Spending too much time on social media typically leads to procrastination and increased stress and anxiety.
Thus, if you want to make the most of your weekend, detach yourself from social media.
Doing so gives you more time to spend with your loved ones or doing your hobbies.
Aside from this, unplugging also helps you avoid doomscrolling, restoring your peace of mind.
Practice Self-Reflection
Feeling lost in your career and personal life?
Here’s a seemingly odd weekend relaxation tip: take time off and practice some self-reflection.
Self-reflection allows you to step back and evaluate what matters to you so you can realign your actions accordingly.
Additionally, self-reflection helps you be more grateful for what you currently have and gain valuable lessons from past mistakes.
Start Your Weekend on Friday
Why wait for Saturday and Sunday when you can start having fun on Friday night?
One of the benefits of having a work from home job is you don’t need to commute to and from work. This means that you can start your weekend as soon as you log off from work.
This gives you more time to grab dinner out with friends and family, play board games, or watch a movie – before the weekend officially begins.
End the Weekend Strong
Got the Sunday night blues?
If so, top off your weekend by doing something fun yet relaxing for Sunday night.
This could be reading your favorite book, watching your favorite show, or playing your favorite video game with your friends.
You can also use this time to prepare for next week by grocery shopping, planning your schedule, and setting your alarms for tomorrow.
Happy Weekend!
With so much to do in so little time, balancing fun and getting some much-needed rest during weekends can be challenging.
Fortunately, with the tips above, you can make the most of your weekend and return refreshed and re-energized on Monday.
